MomBoard: E-ink display for a parent with amnesia

Two years ago, I set up an e-ink display in my mom’s apartment to help her live independently with anterograde amnesia. Unable to form new memories, she experiences constant anxiety about her grown children’s well-being. Traditional reminders failed. To address this, I designed a device that easily displays messages from family members. The BOOX Note Air2 provided the perfect hardware. A custom website on the device shows messages and allows for remote updates. The display significantly improved my mom’s quality of life and is the only intervention that has worked well. It’s a reliable solution that requires no new learning for the user.
