Google has had to make substantial changes to its services in Europe due to the Digital Markets Act (DMA). This has included redesigning features, removing others, and making over 20 modifications to Google Search. While the changes have benefited comparison sites, they have negatively impacted airlines, hotel operators, and small retailers, leading to a decrease in direct booking clicks. Despite engaging extensively with the European Commission and industry, some stakeholders continue to demand more changes, such as banning anything more sophisticated than a simple blue link. To strike a balance, Google is proposing further changes to its European search results.
