A unique basalt tablet with an enigmatic language was found near Lake Bashplemi in Georgia, featuring 60 symbols, with 39 being unique, arranged in seven registers. The symbols, resembling scripts from the Middle East and other distant areas, have puzzled researchers on their meaning. Crafted with precision using advanced tools, the tablet shows signs of attempted cleaning by modern locals. This discovery challenges the perception of the Caucasus region as peripheral in the study of ancient writing systems, suggesting cultural exchange with neighboring regions. The tablet’s age is estimated to be from the Late Bronze or Early Iron Ages, adding complexity to the region’s cultural history.
