MacBASIC

Icon of Macintosh BASIC version 1.0, or MacBASIC, was developed by Apple Computer for early Macintosh computers. Donn Denman began work on the project in 1981, with assistance from Bryan Stearns and others. Unfortunately, a beta release of MacBASIC was abruptly put on hold by Apple in 1984, after plans for a $99 sale were scrapped. The decision was allegedly influenced by pressure from Microsoft, who wanted a perpetual license to Macintosh user interface in exchange for extending the license to Applesoft BASIC for Apple II series computers. The controversy led to the shelving of MacBASIC, causing outrage among team members. Version 1.0 was eventually leaked after being delivered to Microsoft.
