Sleep disorders are a widespread issue, with the demand for sleep support increasing. Research has shown a link between certain nutrients and insomnia, however, a study in Japan focused on the correlation between potassium and sodium intake and sleep disturbances among healthy Japanese adults. Results suggested that higher potassium intake, especially at dinner, was associated with better sleep quality, while there was no significant relationship found between sodium intake and sleep. Potassium plays a vital role in muscle function and neurotransmitter activity, which affects sleep patterns. Further research is needed to understand the relationship between nutrient intake and insomnia fully.
