Waydroid – Android in a Linux container

Waydroid offers a container-based approach to run a full Android system on Linux systems with Wayland-based desktop environments. Providing full integration of Android on Linux, Waydroid allows for multi-window mode, full-screen mode for desktops and kiosks, and near-native performance. It is free, open-source, and actively supported by a growing community. Waydroid expands on Android’s window definition, integrates seamlessly with Linux, and provides access to needed hardware. It is compatible with various CPU architectures and offers manual image downloads. The latest beta release showcases fully-integrated distros on Ubuntu and Debian platforms, with tools and scripts for additional customization. Maintenance and operation are made simpler with Waydroid-Settings, along with other projects developed by the team. While Waydroid-Linux currently supports only x86_64 CPUs, it offers Android’s mesa integration for passthrough. Live mode is not supported, requiring installation beforehand for proper functioning. The development team at Waydroid includes dedicated individuals working to make the project successful. To support its growth, Waydroid is now on Open Collective, accepting donations and sponsorships.
