CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, has been a key player in scientific discovery and technological advancement. In addition to its groundbreaking research, CERN has quietly supported open-source software for years. Currently investigating how to measure its impact on the global open-source community, CERN’s OSPO is on a treasure hunt to gather and consolidate code produced by employees and visiting researchers. Partnering with Software Heritage, CERN aims to identify, track, and measure the influence of its open-source software projects. This initiative not only benefits CERN but also sets a precedent for other institutions seeking to measure their own open-source impact.
