Half Cent Coin

The half cent coin was the smallest denomination of U.S. coin ever minted, produced from 1793 to 1857 with five different designs. The coin was made of 100% copper and was minted with no mint marks in Philadelphia Mint. Controversially, the Coinage Act of 1857 discontinued the half cent in favor of the small cent. Surprisingly, no half cents were minted in 1837, but private tokens filled the gap for small change. Unique designs included Liberty Cap, Draped Bust, Classic Head, and Braided Hair. The coin pictures revealed different designs and mintages, providing a rich history of American coinage.
