Beavers Are Coming Home

The government has announced that applications to reintroduce beavers into river catchments in England are now open. This move is seen as a nature-based solution to many problems our rivers face, as beavers are natural ecosystem engineers that can reduce flood peaks and increase biodiversity. The Wildlife Trusts have been at the forefront of campaigning for the return of beavers, highlighting the benefits they bring to the environment. With licenses expected to be granted within the year, beavers could be roaming wild in British rivers and lakes as early as autumn 2025, creating new wetlands and flood protection for homes.
