Botswana launches first satellite BOTSAT-1 aboard SpaceX Falcon 9

Botswana celebrated the successful launch of its first satellite, BOTSAT-1, aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. The satellite, developed by BIUST and led by Dr Dimane Mpoeleng, aims to provide essential Earth Observation data for national development priorities such as food security and urban planning. The launch was attended by Botswana’s President, Duma Gideon Boko, signaling future collaborations with SpaceX. BOTSAT-1 marks Botswana’s entry into the space arena, positioning the country to lead future developments like BOTSAT-2. The mission also features advanced imaging technology from Dragonfly Aerospace, supporting sustainability and fostering technical expertise among engineers in Botswana.
