Supercapacitor Is Made from Concrete and Carbon

Researchers from Harvard’s Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering and MIT have developed a supercapacitor using only cement, water, and carbon black. This supercapacitor provides an alternative energy storage solution to batteries, which are costly and harmful to the environment. The team used cement as the base for the supercapacitor’s electrodes, creating a charge difference between two conductive plates. The carbon black-filled cement paste has a large surface area of conductive tunnels, allowing for efficient energy storage. The team envisions using these supercapacitors in concrete roads that wirelessly charge cars and integrating them into residential home foundations.
