Virgin Galactic’s VSS Unity successfully launched and landed with its first crew of tourists on board. The mission, named Galactic 02, took place at Spaceport America in New Mexico and included six individuals, including the commander CJ Sturckow, pilot Kelly Latimer, and chief astronaut instructor Beth Moses. Three private passengers were also on board, including Keisha Schahaff and her daughter, Anastasia Mayers, who are the first mother-daughter duo to venture into space together. Schahaff won her seat through a fundraising competition by Space for Humanity. The flight provided several minutes of weightlessness and allowed passengers to see the Earth’s curvature.
