Ode to the M1

I am in awe of the 2021 MacBook Pro M1. While there has been much discussion about its impressive performance and battery life, what truly sets it apart for me is its suitability for my unique needs. As someone who spends their time coding and writing articles, Linux is usually my go-to operating system. However, dealing with its occasional glitches and compatibility issues can be frustrating. This is where MacOS X comes to the rescue. Additionally, as a retro-gaming enthusiast, I often find myself needing to run Windows through an emulator. However, my attempts to do so on other machines have been far from smooth sailing. Enter UTM. With just a few clicks, I was able to set up both Ubuntu and Windows 11 virtual machines with ease. The ability to seamlessly share files between platforms and the incredible speed at which they run has been a game-changer for me. My only concerns lie in the hands of software engineers who may overload the M1’s capabilities with unnecessary features, and the potential for UTM to be acquired and transform into a confusing enterprise product. Overall, the M1 paired with UTM is a dream come true for my specific needs.
