USENET, also known as NetNews, is an ancient social network that predates the World Wide Web. Despite the original developers shutting down their instance in 2010, many servers are still running and the platform is very much alive. USENET is a decentralized network with a governing authority called the Big-8 board. Recently, the board has been active, deleting old groups, adding new ones, updating packages, and revamping the website. USENET is similar to email, with servers carrying a list of newsgroups and syncing messages with each other. Joining USENET is easy and free, and there are various client apps available. While USENET has had some controversies, such as piracy issues, it still remains a thriving community for discussions.
