Google to pay $93M in settlement over deceptive location tracking

Google has agreed to pay $93 million to settle accusations that it misled consumers about how their location information was being tracked and stored. The settlement follows a lengthy investigation into Google’s data practices. The lawsuit, brought by the California attorney general, alleged that the company misled users into thinking they had more control over their location information than they actually did. Google allowed users to turn off their “location history” but continued to collect and store location data through other sources, according to the attorney general’s office. Google has agreed to be more transparent about its location tracking practices and obtain approval before making privacy changes. The company previously settled a similar lawsuit for $392 million in 2022.
