Macs have been successful in various fields such as desktop publishing and multimedia, but programming has been an area where they have struggled. This article explores some of the missed opportunities in programming on Macs. One example is HyperTalk, a scripting language that was limited in its capabilities. Another language, AppleScript, allowed users to automate tasks but has been largely neglected in recent years. Prograph, a visual programming language, had its run in the late 1980s and early 1990s but has since disappeared. Automator, on the other hand, introduced a more intuitive visual approach to creating workflows and apps. Swift Playgrounds and Shortcuts were later advancements in programming for both educational and practical purposes. While these tools have had their successes, none of them have truly brought programming to the masses.
