PFAS Forever Chemicals Present in Some Plastic Recyclable Bottles

Kyla Bennett, an ecologist and attorney in Easton, Massachusetts, passionately opposes the use of chemicals to kill insects in the Hockomock Swamp, a 26-square-mile area near her home. She believes in antispeciesism, considering it unethical to show preference to any animal species, including humans. The Hockomock Swamp has a rich history, with the Wampanoag people relying on it for shelter and sustenance for centuries. It is now primarily used for recreational activities such as dog walking and canoeing. However, it is also home to a species of mosquito that carries a deadly virus called eastern equine encephalitis. To combat this, state officials spray a pesticide called Anvil 10+10 from airplanes. Bennett, who cherishes the swamp for its vernal pools, where various species breed, is concerned about the impact of these chemicals.
