bitmagnet is a self-hosted BitTorrent indexer and search engine with unique features. Currently in alpha, it offers a DHT crawler that allows users to crawl the DHT network and discover new content without relying on external trackers or torrent indexers. The crawler also attempts to classify and associate the discovered content with known movies and TV shows. While not completely unique, bitmagnet’s DHT crawler sets it apart from other projects like magnetico. The software also includes features such as content classification, a torrent search engine, a web UI, and integration with other software in the ecosystem. Future plans include implementing more classifiers, improving search performance, and adding authentication and access control features. Additional pipe dream features include integration with popular BitTorrent clients, a decentralized private tracker, and support for the BitTorrent v2 protocol.
