Facing 110 years in prison, Sam Bankman-Fried “can’t recall” what he did at FTX

Sam Bankman-Fried, the CEO of cryptocurrency exchange FTX, testified at his criminal fraud trial claiming that he doesn’t remember key details about his actions while running the exchange. US prosecutor Danielle Sassoon grilled Bankman-Fried about the inconsistencies between his public statements and his management of FTX, which collapsed in November. Despite answering “I can’t recall” or “I’m not sure” to many questions, Sassoon presented evidence such as tweets, emails, and podcast clips that contradicted his testimony. Bankman-Fried eventually confirmed that his hedge fund, Alameda, had the ability to borrow billions of dollars it didn’t own from FTX, but later backtracked on that admission. The trial continues in New York City.
