I recently made the decision to cancel my Replit Hacker plan after being a subscriber for a number of years. While Replit is a popular and growing cloud-based development environment, there were two factors that influenced my choice. Firstly, Replit increased the price of my plan while also removing some features. This didn’t sit well with me, as it felt like a bait and switch tactic. Additionally, my renewed focus on Lisp, my favorite programming language, made me realize that Replit doesn’t support Lisp well. The default code editor lacks integration with a running Lisp image, and files outside of the editor are often not saved. As a result, I would prefer to install and maintain a Lisp system on my local desktop computer. Lastly, Replit’s emphasis on AI coding features in their paid plans doesn’t align with my personal goal of writing all the code myself and learning from the experience.
