In my game, ΔV: Rings of Saturn, which has been in Early Access for two years now, I’ve noticed a particularly high amount of bug reports coming from Linux players. Curious about this, I decided to dig deeper into the numbers. Out of the 12,000 units of ΔV that I’ve sold, 700 were bought by Linux players, accounting for 5.8% of my user base. Surprisingly, these Linux players were responsible for approximately 400 bug reports, averaging at one report per 1.75 Linux players. This means that on average, a Linux player will provide 650% more bug reports. However, only 3 of these reports were platform-specific issues, while the rest affected all players. The Linux community is well-known for their skill in reporting bugs, and they have found 38% of all the bugs that affected everyone. Having this dedicated QA team has been incredibly valuable for my independent game studio. The quality of the bug reports from Linux players has been exceptional, with detailed information, logs, and replication steps provided. This level of engagement and feedback is something that you just don’t get from any other group of players. While the extra sales from Linux players are nice,
