Last month, there was a mysterious explosion in the sky over New Hampshire that had people speculating about aliens and military aircraft. Fortunately, Harvard’s Galileo Project, which investigates extraterrestrial technological civilizations, was able to gather data on the event. While the optical equipment didn’t capture anything interesting, the project’s acoustic monitoring system recorded a 12-second event with an estimated energy release of 2.4 kilotons of TNT. After careful analysis, it was determined that the most likely cause was a meteor entering the Earth’s atmosphere. Although it’s not as exciting as aliens, research like this is important for understanding unidentified aerial phenomena. We’ll be keeping an eye on the Galileo Project’s future findings.
