This document introduces the “SVCB” (“Service Binding”) and “HTTPS” DNS resource record (RR) types that provide instructions for accessing network services, such as HTTP origins. The SVCB records allow a service to be provided from multiple endpoints, each with its own parameters. They also enable aliasing of apex domains, which is not possible with CNAME records. The HTTPS RR is a variation of SVCB specifically for use with HTTP. These records offer potential benefits to performance and privacy by providing more information to the client before establishing a connection. The document also specifies the goals, terminologies, and wire formats for SVCB and HTTPS RRs.
