The city of the future looks like a former military bunker in Taipei (2016)

Treasure Hill, a community located in Taiwan, is a unique example of sustainable urban living. Originally a military outpost, it has transformed into a cluster of unconventional buildings and structures. The settlement began when soldiers stationed there during World War II started raising families and building houses in the bunkers. Over time, the community expanded and incorporated nearby land and waste from the city for farming and energy production. Despite tension with city officials who considered it a slum, architect Marco Casagrande recognized the sustainability practices of Treasure Hill and convinced the government to preserve the settlement by declaring it a form of art. Today, the area operates as Taipei Artist Village and serves as an inspiration for future sustainable urbanism.
