YouTuber pilot Trevor Daniel Jacob has been sentenced to six months in federal prison for deliberately destroying the wreckage of an airplane that he crashed in Santa Barbara County to gain online views. Jacob, an experienced pilot and skydiver, had secured a sponsorship deal to promote a company’s wallet in a YouTube video. In November 2021, he took off on a solo flight and ejected from the plane to parachute to the ground while recording the aircraft’s descent and crash. Jacob then lied to investigators about the wreckage’s location and eventually destroyed it to obstruct the investigation.
