The era of American computer magazines has drawn to a close

I used to rely on Maximum PC magazine to keep up with the latest developments in PC hardware, even though I primarily use a Mac. But on my recent trip to Boston, I couldn’t find it at any newsstand. After a bit of searching online, I discovered that Maximum PC and MacLife had ceased print publication, marking the end of an era in computer journalism that had lasted almost 50 years. This realization made me sad, as I have been an avid reader of computer magazines since I got my first home computer in 1982. While British computer magazines are still available, they don’t provide the same insight into the American computing industry that shaped my understanding of the field. While I cherish the magazines I have saved, it seems unlikely that my collection will grow any further now that this chapter of computing history has come to an end.
