Tesla has recently updated the range estimates for its Model Y Long Range and Performance models on its website. The Long Range model now has a range of 310 miles, while the Performance model has a range of 285 miles. The changes do not affect the cheapest Model Y, the Rear-Wheel Drive, which still has a range of 260 miles. It is unclear why Tesla made these changes, but they could be related to the way the company conducts EPA testing. Tesla has a history of overestimating range, and these updates bring the estimates closer to reality. Range, however, should not be the sole focus when evaluating electric vehicles. Driving efficiently and having access to fast-charging stations are more important factors to consider.
