Peregrine moon lander suffers anomaly after launch

Astrobotic’s Peregrine spacecraft encountered an anomaly shortly after its launch, jeopardizing its mission to land on the moon. The spacecraft initially entered a “safe, operational state” after deployment, but then faced a problem with maintaining a sun-pointing orientation, which could impact its ability to generate power. The company developed a maneuver to reorient the spacecraft towards the sun in order to recharge its batteries and is awaiting confirmation of its success. Astrobotic did not provide further details about the anomaly. The landing scheduled for February 23 is considered the biggest risk for the mission.
