A confession exposes India’s hacking industry

Private investigator Jonas Rey was asked by law firm Burlingtons to investigate whether Iranian hackers had accessed entrepreneur Farhad Azima’s email account after he helped expose Iranian sanctions-busting. Rey’s investigation in India led him to one of several hacking-for-hire companies and established that India is home to a thriving cyberattack industry. Farhad Azima’s legal battle with Ras Al Khaimah, a UAE investment fund suing him for fraud and self-dealing, saw batches of Azima’s personal emails mysteriously surface online. Rey discovered Ras Al Khaimah had commissioned Indian hacking-for-hire firms to rob Azima’s confidential material and post it online.
