I recently realized that my main laptop is much older than I had originally thought. Apple actually considers it to be vintage, but despite its age, I don’t feel the need to upgrade. The fact that Apple still supports it in macOS, the hardware works perfectly fine, and I haven’t run out of disk space all contribute to my lack of motivation to get a new computer. However, there is one thing that really bothers me about it: the Touch Bar and its fake ESC key. I thought I would get used to it, but I never did. Surprisingly, this is the longest I’ve ever owned a laptop without upgrading. I believe this is due to the fact that I primarily use this machine for web browsing and terminal work. On top of that, the most demanding program I use, Final Cut Pro, is still manageable on this old machine since my videos are short and straightforward. So, thanks to a combination of Apple’s reliable hardware and software, as well as offloading many of my computing needs to the cloud, this old laptop is still running smoothly.
