Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is taking a unique approach with its new N2 (2nm-class) process technology. Instead of upgrading existing fabs or building a new facility, TSMC is constructing two N2-capable fabs and awaiting government approval for a third. The first fab will be near the R1 research and development center, specifically built for N2 technology, and is expected to commence high-volume manufacturing in 2025. The second fab will be located in the Kaohsiung Science Park, with HVM projected for 2026. TSMC is also seeking government approvals for a third fab in the Taichung Science Park. This expansion will significantly increase TSMC’s 2nm capacity.
