In a surprising discovery, modder TheZZAZZGlitch has found a way to recreate Game Boy Advance (GBA) ROM data by recording the crashing sounds of the system. By recording a crashing GBA over four hours, the modder noticed waveforms in a sound file that corresponded to instrument sounds and audio samples from the game. After running a Python script and troubleshooting the process, TheZZAZZGlitch was able to achieve almost 100 percent accuracy in recreating the ROM data. Although this method can be seen as “cheating” by using known ROM data, it offers a unique way to extract unknown information from the game.
