AWS charge for using IPv4 expected to bring $1B/year and speed up IPv6 adoption

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced a new charge for customers with public IPv4 addresses, a change that was announced six months ago. According to the Border0 blog, this change could result in Amazon making an extra $1 billion from its IPv4 addresses over the next year. AWS had previously stated that it would start charging customers $0.005 per IP per hour for all public IPv4 addresses. Border0 estimated that, with nearly 132 million IPv4 addresses managed by AWS, the total value of its IPv4 stock is worth $4.6 billion. Additionally, Border0 predicted that AWS could make between $400 million and $1 billion per year from the new charging plan.
