The RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) is an air-defense weapon that serves as a last-ditch defense against incoming anti-ship missiles. Unlike Phalanx, which had limitations due to its use of a gun, RAM uses a missile that can engage targets at a longer range. RAM is fired from a rifled tube and rolls in flight, allowing it to use only two control fins instead of four. The missile initially relies on glint for guidance, but later versions have an imaging IR seeker. RAM has proven to be effective in intercepting incoming missiles and is widely used by various countries for ship defense.
