In this blog post, the author shares their experience hacking their Dacia Sandero’s infotainment system to run custom software. They discovered that by placing special files on a USB drive, they could trigger debug functions and access system logs. The author also explored the firmware and discovered that an Android update app used a new binary protocol called NFTP, which operated over the Android Open Accessory (AOA) transport layer. They used a Raspberry Pi in gadget mode to simulate an Android device and successfully gained root access on the head unit.
