translateLocally offers fast and secure translation on your local machine with a GUI that is powered by marian and Bergamot. The latest automatic builds for Windows, Linux, and Mac can be downloaded from Github or the official website. Building from source is also an option to bring this service to the masses. Ubuntu and Archlinux build dependencies are provided, as well as guidance for MacOS build. The performance of OpenBLAS compared to Intel’s MKL is debated. The command-line interface supports translations, downloading, removing, and listing models. NativeMessaging is available to integrate with other applications and browser extensions, albeit with some limitations. Custom models can also be imported, and quantising the model for efficiency is recommended. Contributions from the Bergamot project and EU funding are acknowledged.
