Magnesium Depletion Score and Metabolic Syndrome in US Adults

In this study, researchers aimed to explore the connection between kidney reabsorption-related magnesium depletion score (MDS) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in US adults using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2003 to 2018. The study found that higher MDS was linked to increased odds of MetS, indicating a potential linear risk factor for the syndrome. This association held true across different demographic and behavioral factors, highlighting the importance of optimizing magnesium nutritional status to potentially benefit individuals with MetS. Magnesium deficiency is a prevalent issue, affecting over half of the US population, yet its link to MetS is relatively unexplored. Findings from this research provide valuable insights for future prevention and treatment strategies.
