Albert Camus was born into poverty in 1913, raised by his illiterate mother, and became a journalist. He had a team spirit from his football days, supported anarchism, and associated with revolutionary syndicalists. His book “The Rebel” marked a break from the Communist Party left, earning praise from anarchists. Camus faced criticism from fellow travellers and Surrealists but found support from the anarchist movement. He stood up for anarchist causes, supported anti-militarist activists, expressed solidarity with workers’ uprisings, and fought for conscientious objectors. Camus died at 46 in 1960, leaving behind a legacy of supporting anarchist ideals.
