Google, Meta ‘break’ Apple’s device fingerprinting rules

Apple recently initiated a requirement for iOS developers to justify the use of specific APIs that could be utilized for device fingerprinting. However, major tech players like Google, Meta, and Spotify seem to be disregarding this rule by collecting data from these APIs without adhering to the guidelines. This data, used for tracking, is then sent off-device against Apple’s regulations. Despite Apple’s efforts to maximize user privacy by demanding explanations for API usage in a privacy manifest file, there appears to be no enforcement in place, leading to potential privacy violations. The question remains whether Apple’s measures truly prevent fingerprinting and enhance user privacy.
