Rivian Joins Forces with Tesla, Embracing Their Charging Standard for EVs

Rivian has announced that it will adopt Tesla’s charging standard, enabling its customers to use Tesla’s Supercharger network across North America from Spring 2024 via adaptive cables. Rivian is also set to introduce Tesla-style charging ports as a standard feature on its vehicles from 2025. This move comes as Tesla seeks to establish its charging standard as the industry norm, and expands its revenue stream from charging services. Building charging networks requires substantial investment, deterring most automakers from establishing their own, and Tesla’s Superchargers currently make up around 60% of available fast chargers in the US according to the Department of Energy.
