Tomás Vega SM ’19 discovered the power of technology and empathy through his experience with stuttering. This led him to a passion for human augmentation, which eventually led to co-founding Augmental. Augmental’s first product, the MouthPad, allows people with movement impairments to interact with personal devices using tongue and head movements. Users have reported increased independence and functionality in various tasks. The company is working on gaining FDA clearance to expand the device’s capabilities, as well as developing a new version that can respond to whispers and subtle movements. Vega envisions Augmental as a tool that can benefit everyone, providing a hands-free input system for interacting with technology.
