MicroMac, a Macintosh for under £5

The author explores the idea of creating a microcontroller Macintosh using the RP2040 MCU. Reflecting on the simplicity of the original Macintosh, the project aims to emulate a Macintosh 128K computer using the Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller. By following an unconventional path filled with challenges, the author successfully builds the Pico MicroMac, a unique project that combines monochrome VGA video, USB keyboard/mouse input, and Macintosh emulation. The development journey includes overcoming technical hurdles and learning about the original Mac hardware and software. The end result is a functional emulator that showcases the author’s creativity and determination.
