Honoring the Legacy of Chip Design Innovator Lynn Conway

Lynn Conway, one of the codevelopers of very-large-scale integration (VLSI), passed away at the age of 86. She was a transgender-rights activist who played a crucial role in updating the IEEE Code of Conduct to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. Conway’s work on VLSI revolutionized microchip design and led to the creation of faster and more powerful devices. Despite facing discrimination because of her gender identity, Conway persevered and fought for recognition. Her contributions to the field of engineering have earned her multiple awards and accolades, solidifying her legacy as a trailblazer in the industry.
