Klára Dán Von Neumann

Klára Dán von Neumann, a Hungarian-American mathematician and pioneer computer scientist, was renowned for her groundbreaking work in programming. She was the first woman to write modern-style code on a computer and contributed significantly to projects like ENIAC and MANIAC I. Dán’s journey involved overcoming societal norms and perceptions of programming as menial work. She worked alongside her husband, John von Neumann, on revolutionary projects and made invaluable contributions to meteorological forecasting and the development of the Monte Carlo method. Despite her remarkable career, Dán faced personal challenges, including multiple marriages and tragic losses, before her untimely death by suicide in 1963.
