Can you guess how big a variable NUMBER needs to be before a computer program takes one second to run? Julia Evans and Kamal Marhubi have put together a test to see just how well you know computers. The programs all contain a variable NUMBER between one and one billion, and users must guess the right order of magnitude for when the program requires one second to run. The test is aimed at determining whether participants can tell the difference between code that runs at 10 times per second and that which runs at 100,000 times per second. Results will be anonymously collected and analysed.
