A man with a locked safe sought out the author’s safecracking services after ten years of the safe being inaccessible due to a lost combination. The safe in question was a red Gary safe with a Sargent & Greenleaf dial. The author, with limited knowledge of this model, relied on his expertise to manipulate the lock and devise a plan of attack. Using drilling techniques and a borescope, the author obtained the combination by aligning the gates of the wheel 1, wheel 2, and wheel 3. After successfully opening the safe, the author repaired the hole and determined the numerical combination for the customer. The article showcases the author’s logical approach to safecracking without relying solely on documentation.
