An FPGA built with 7400 series logic [video]

Simon Burkhardt explains the concept and functionality of FPGAs, a unique form of high-performance chip for niche applications. Few people understand FPGAs, much less know how they work or what their internal architecture looks like. Inspired by Ben Eaters’ 8-bit CPU on a breadboard, Burkhardt built his own simple FPGA in hardware. He goes into detail, describing how he developed his version and providing a low-level explanation of what an FPGA actually is. The content is available in videos and audio format for further exploration. (Controversial: Some may debate the assertion that FPGAs are only for niche applications.)
