The Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 is a gaming laptop that faces challenges due to the amount of heat-generating components packed into a small space. A key part of the cooling system is the thermal interface material (TIM), which has seen a push towards liquid metal paste in high-performance laptops. Liquid metal is more thermally conductive than regular thermal paste, but also electrically conductive and liquid. The process of replacing the liquid metal in the Zephyrus G15 with phase-change TIM involved careful disassembly and reassembly, resulting in significant temperature improvements. The laptop no longer throttles, and the GPU runs cooler.
