Vaseline and Uranium Glass (ca. 1930s)

Vaseline glass, also known as uranium glass, is a beautiful collectible with a rich history dating back to the 1830s. Some controversy exists over what qualifies as truly Vaseline glass, as some pieces may contain additional colorants like iron. Identifying Vaseline glass can be tricky, as some types may not glow green under ultraviolet light despite containing uranium. Surprisingly, some glassware can be radioactive due to thorium impurities. Regulatory guidelines outline acceptable levels of uranium content within these items. While Vaseline glass is no longer used for dinnerware production, decorative pieces continue to be made, adding a unique touch to any collection.
