In mid-2019, the author had to choose between joining the Google Go team or Sourcegraph and chose the latter due to Sourcegraph’s culture of complete transparency. However, Sourcegraph recently made their future development repository private, undermining the open culture that had initially attracted the author. To preserve the artifacts and references from their time at Sourcegraph, the author undertook the task of scraping relevant commits and rewriting references in their own forked repository. By doing so, they ensured that their work and contributions would still be accessible and preserved. This meticulous process involved extracting and syncing thousands of commits and pull requests to maintain stable references for the future.
